Tighten the hinge screws and then try adjusting the strike plate by loosening its screws and shifting it slightly. That can cause the pins to get stuck in a partially raised position and prevent the plug from turning. When that happens the dirt can cause the pins to stick in a partially raised position preventing the plug from turning. Don t use a wet.

A door knob lock button stuck has a few quick fixes that you can try out. Key will not work if you ve had a new spare key cut recently it could be a poorly cut key causing the problem. Remove the two screws one on either side of the handle and remove the knob. When a door latch doesn t click into position it usually means the latch and the strike plate are out of alignment.

Release the button quickly try sliding your finger off the button so the pressure is maintained up until the precise moment of release with no backing off. Repairs range from making minor latch adjustments to repositioning the door. Outdoor locks can collect a lot of dirt and dust inside the lock cylinder. In most cases a spritz of dry lubricant will be sufficient to free up the plug and allow you to open your door.

Start by trying to push the lock button. Spray the lock with lubricant to remove dirt and dust. It will come in two pieces. If that is the problem it is easy to fix.

It should have at least a one inch throw and on the strike side there should be a security plate with screws at least three inches long. Sometimes dust and dirt collect inside the lock cylinder. Push and hold the button in. Flip the key and open the door.

Slide the key in the lock and tap lightly on the key to lubricate the inside of the lock. You can spray a little dry lubricant in the lock to free up the plug so you can open the door. Spray the door key with a graphite based lubricant.
